Testing

Like computer games like World of Warcraft, Clinical Information Systems
also undergo similarly distinct testing phases.

Testing is the fifth phase in the developing, implementing and upgrading a clinical information system. It is generally classified into two, alpha test and beta test. Although both tests are different in some ways, they both verify that the computer programs are written correctly and ensures that when implemented, the system will function as planned.

Some of the differences between alpha test and beta test.

The preparation of documents to describe the system for all users is an ongoing activity, called the Document System. It provides guides to the system components and outline how the entire system works.

There are 3 kinds, namely:
  1. User’s Manual - Highlights how to use the system and describes what outputs system can produce.
  2. Reference Manuel - Used by the project team members to understand how the system works. Describes data what are input, how the databases process the data, and the mechanism used to generate outputs.
  3. Operator’s Maintenance Manual - Enables operators to keep the system up and running by providing the functional and technical specifications needed for the system.

As a last note, manuals must be written in sufficient detail such that system users and operators understand how the system was developed, operated, and how it can be maintained, updated, and repaired.
